...you don't look at all old enough to be teaching!"

I knew there was a reason why I never go to brunch.
Just got back from eating out with Fam and some friends of hers. I knew it was going to be a long brunch when the following ensued:
"Where do you go to school?"
"The [University]."
"Oh, university! What year are you?"
"I'm a graduate student."
*pause* "And what are you working toward?"
"A Master's in Education."
"Oh, my. You don't look at all old enough to be teaching!"
...
Odd. You looked old enough to have tact. Looks like we were both wrong.
I'm a student and teacher with far too many pets and much too little time. It's hard to balance work and play! Read a book, or play Harvest Moon? Cook dinner, or clean the fish tank? (Actually, that one shouldn't be an either-or, but I'm still working on that priorities thing.)
I live with The Boy, whom I am also dating. He owns two snakes (Loki and Thor) and has a tendency to make the dishwasher billow smoke ohgod what
I also own three rats: Goodbye Benny Anderson, the Canadian, and Lilith and Jadis, the dumbo sisters. They live together in a cage that's large enough to house a small person. (And has, hasn't it
Until I graduated university, I worked on-campus as a security guard. Bored? Ask me about the peeping toms, the Raccoon Incident, or the time the EMTs locked their keys in the ambulance. Want to see me foam at the mouth in rage? Ask about my bosses. I also worked as a concert hall usher because I think few things are better in life than being paid to enjoy music. Currently I am job hunting, and current plans are to be a tutor or a nanny.
My apartment has far too many electronics, surround-sound speakers held to the wall with duct tape (for added class), and more tea than you could comfortably drink in a month. Now that we have an espresso machine, it always smells like caffeine or whatever I am currently cooking. (Or socks, if it's Laundry Day.)
This LJ wasn't my main place of journaling until recently--I made it so I had a dedicated and private place to rant, share, and giggle about the kids I'm teaching this semester, so don't be surprised if my pots are a little...focused on a single topic. As I move over from my blog, posts will diversify, but right now all the archives center around my students and issues of teaching.
My students love my sarcastic sense of humor and my tongue piercing, hate my hard-ass grading policies, and are still awkward about the fact that I have a medical condition that keeps me from being able to write.
